A Schubert Sampler

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral • 121 West 12th Street, Davenport, IAmap

Our season opener features two works by Schubert, a duo for cello and bass by Rossini, and the Grieg 3rd Sonata for violin and piano.

Chamber Music Quad Cities opens its 30th season with an afternoon of beautiful music from the 19th Century. Franz Schubert takes center stage. Two wonderful musicians from the University of Iowa, Elizabeth Oakes and Volkan Orhon, make it possible to present Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet, a piece that deploys one each of instruments of the violin family plus the piano. His lovely Notturno (Nocturne) opens the program. An amusing duo for cello and bass by Rossini–much better known as an operatic composer–and the C-Minor Violin Sonata by the Norwegian Edvard Grieg complete the afternoon’s offerings. The brilliant Chinese-American violinist Mira Wang, new to the Quad Cities, is our guest violinist.
