Made in Iowa

CMQC’s season finale presents music written in Iowa by Dvorak, Bix Beiderbecke, Earl Rohlf, and Jonathan Chenette, as well as music by three non-Iowans: JS Bach, Chopin, and György Ligeti.

The program opens with a duo written in commemoration of September 11 by former Grinnell College faculty member Jonathan Chenette. A solo-piano set will move through Europe and America in chronological order, beginning with JS Bach, and moving through Chopin, pieces by Davenport natives Bix Beiderbecke and Earl Rohlf, finishing with the modernist master György Ligeti. The beloved “American” String Quartet by Dvorak, written in Spillville during the summer of 1893, closes the program.
